Day 1 – Basic BFA Training

Illusions of the Ear

What we know and how Illusions influence our thinking and beliefs.

The history of Acupuncture and Auriculotherapy in the US

Acupuncture was first practiced in the United States in the late 18th century. Auriculotherapy and Moxa was first used/spoking about in the United States.

Point theory behind BFA

Point concepts to understand how and why BFA works from a embryological point of view.

History of Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) and what conditions can it treat?

BFA was invented by Dr. Richard Niemtzow in 2001. The protocol was born because of clinical observations made by Dr. Niemtzow.

Why use BFA?

It works in synergy when combined with your style of acupuncture. The protocol may also be used as a standalone treatment.

Types of Needles used and Why.

BFA uses special needles. These needles were designed specifically for treating the ear.

Needle Insertion techniques.

You will learn hands on needling techniques in this seminar. By the end of the first day, you will be proficient in using needles.

Point Location and Function

Each BFA point can have multiple functions and outcomes in a clinical setting.

Clinical Cut-Offs and Delayed Response

Knowing when to stop the treatment will prevent further injuries to your patients. Everyone heals at their own pace.

Ear Care and Follow-up

Learn how proper ear car is essential to your patient’s outcome.

Point Concepts to understand Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) theory.
Do you really know the correct location of Shenmen? Or is it just an Illusions of the Ear.

The history of Acupuncture and Auriculotherapy in the US
Auriculotherapy and Moxa when it was first used in the United States. Up to President Richard Nixon.

Understand the history behind the BFA protocol!

A preceptive view of the inventor’s idea on how and what BFA should be used for in a clinical and field setting.

Learn how to do the BFA Protocol and how to use it.

What is the correct clinical setting and patient to use BFA on?

Properly use ASP® needles and learn correct auricular insertion technique for BFA including: BFA point location.

Learn hands on how to use ASP needles on BFA points for the best clinical outcome.

Recognize Side Effects and Results of BFA
BFA may address multiple pathologies. Results can be seen in seconds in some cases.

Apply BFA in your clinical practice successfully.

You will learn a proficient way to implement BFA into your practice, no matter the style of acupuncture you use.

Day 2 – Advanced BFA Training

Review of Basic Battlefield Acupuncture Protocol

Review and reinforce what you learned on the first day of the seminar. Know before you go, we like to say.

The Illusions of the Ear

Understand how Illusions and beliefs influence our way of thinking. Here you will learn how to look beyond your auriculotherapy textbooks to improve clinical outcomes.

Incorporating Nogier’s Phases into BFA

First a foundation of BFA points is created before adding in Nogier phase points to further address specific pathologies.

Paul Nogier’s auriculotherapy phases

Learn the Nogier phases (a phase is the condition of the state of the disease). Phase 1 is the Acute phase; Phase 2 is the Chronic phase and Phase 3 is the Degenerative phase. Identify which phase the problem occurs so you can determine where to places the needle (s) for treatment.

When to consider using Advanced Battlefield Acupuncture

When Battlefield Acupuncture does not work, or when your results are slow in your treatment of the patient.

Pairing and Clustering of BFA Needles

Pairing of the needles (2 needles in one-point location) creates a small galvanic current between the needles. Clustering is adding a third needle into the same point.  Pairing and clustering are determined by the results you achieve when first applying BFA; the results dictate the treatment.

Incorporating Devices to enhance clinical outcomes.

Use devices such as point finders to confirm and treat your patient’s pathologies. By using a point finder, you can enhance your treatment results.

Types of Needles used in BFA and Why

BFA uses ASP® (semi-permanent) needles invented by Dr. Paul Nogier. These needles were designed specifically for treating the ear. Use Gold, Classic and Titanium needles when applicable.

How and when to apply Advanced BFA in your clinical practice successfully

You will learn a proficient way to implement Advanced BFA into your practice no matter the style of acupuncture you use.

Successfully implementing auriculotherapy into your practice

We focus on clinically proven techniques along with scientific facts on auriculotherapy.

Ear Care and Follow-up with BFA

Patient compliance is especially important. We will provide you with a form to add into your patient’s treatment plan.

Questions and Answers

Ask away, it is the only way to learn. Our team always stays around after the seminar to answer all your questions.

Practice and Case Discussion

Review of patients treated that day. This team approach helps build clinical knowledge when incorporating auriculotherapy in your treatments.

Clinical Pearls

How to treat common pathologies in your day-to-day clinic. To include the following treatment protocols.

  • Neuropath (in the feet or hands)
  • Insomnia
